DEKALB, Ill. — Jon Spaulding placed second to lead five Edinboro medalists as the Fighting Scots finished 11th among 15 teams in their first appearance at the MAC tournament.
Spaulding, the Scots' lone finalist, lost an 11-0 major decision to Central Michigan's Matt Stencel in the heavyweight championship match at the Convocation Center on the campus of Northern Illinois University.
Spaulding was also Edinboro's lone automatic qualifier for the NCAA tournament. It was a tough afternoon for the Scots, who won just two of 10 matches Sunday.
Saegertown graduate Dylan Reynolds finished sixth at 197 pounds, Jacob Oliver placed seventh at 174, and Derek Ciavarro (165) and Saegertown grad Cody Mulligan (184) each went 0-2 and finished eighth.

General McLane graduate Ethan Laird, a junior at Rider, posted three wins Saturday to advance to the 197-pound final. However, Laird lost the championship match on a medical forfeit. No details were available about his condition or injury.
Warren graduate D.J. Fehlman, a senior a Lock Haven, placed fifth at 133 pounds.
